Sometimes, life requires a little drama, a bit of va-voom. Channeling your inner diva in a regular 9-5 life can be a little challenging, but you're in good hands. Boyd’s of Madison Avenue has catered to famous faces for decades, and they know a thing or two about Hollywood Glam.
The looks of the so-called icons of Hollywood's Golden Age were all united by their bold eyebrows, dramatic eyes and deep red lipstick. Add a hint of cleavage and a touch of bling. If you can't afford $1.1 million dollars for the 68-carat Cartier diamond that Richard Burton gave to Elizabeth Taylor for their wedding, there are some convincing knock-offs to be had!
There is nothing low-key about this look. Whether the hairstyle is a chic-shag (Audrey Hepburn), a stylized, sleek bun (Grace Kelly) or a cloud of bleach blond curls (Marilyn Monroe), this is the most replicated beauty look at awards shows. The sophisticated glamor we so often spot on the red carpet evokes a sense of nostalgia and old Hollywood.
Whatever your moment, choose your look and live in it to the fullest! Or, as Elizabeth Taylor once said, "Pour yourself a drink, put on some lipstick, and pull yourself together."
Barbara Glenn shares her tips and tricks to achieving Elizabeth Taylor’s iconic look below!
Step 1: Apply a matte foundation all over.
Step 2: Use a concealer all over the eye, sides of your nose, sides of your mouth and under your chin. Blend with a sponge.
Step 3: Seal your base with a light dusting of mineral powder.
Step 4: Her iconic eyebrows are achieved by using a dark grey pencil to outline the brow. Select a brow pencil several shades darker than your own. Make the front half thick into a high arch then downward towards the end. Fill in with a dark brow powder.
Step 5: Apply a shadow that matches your skin tone from the lash line up to the brow. Dark grey shadow is applied in the crease and lightly across the entire lid, to the outer 1/2 of the lid, and smudged under the eye.
Step 6: Apply black liquid liner thinly across the lid and extend outward towards at the end, for a subtle cat eye. Apply half way under the eye.
Step 7: Apply 2 to 3 coats of mascara for a dramatic look.
Step 8: Contour your cheeks with a bronzer by sucking in your cheeks and following the concave points.
Step 9: Apply soft red blush over the contoured areas of your cheeks.
Step 10: Outline your lips with a red pencil and fill in with a vivid red lipstick. Apply gloss for fullness.
Step 12: To complete the Liz Taylor look, add a beauty mark on the lower right side of your cheek and voila! You’ve transported yourself to the Hollywood Golden Age.
